Pistons' Drummond as good as his Twitter word, attends prom

Last year, West Bloomfield (Mich.) High School's prom featured an appearance by a cast member from the reality show "Basketball Wives." But this year's prom went one better — a basketball player.

A West Bloomfield student, Raquel Smith, had reached out to the Detroit Pistons' Andre Drummond via Twitter, asking how she could get him to come to prom with her. He said she needed 12,000 retweets. She came pretty darn close, so Drummond, a 6-foot-10 center and former first-round pick from Connecticut who just completed his third NBA season, put on a snazzy jacket, rocked a classy black hat and stepped out in Louis Vuitton shoes to attend the event on Wednesday night.

"He was absolutely amazing," West Bloomfield principal Pat Watson said (via the Detroit Free Press). "He stayed at prom almost two hours, was social with everyone; he was very nice. Of course, even the adults wanted pictures, and he was very accommodating. He was just unbelievable."

So, what kind of high school is West Bloomfield? Here's a clue: Drummond drove a Porsche to prom, but he didn't necessarily have the nicest car.

"We had a couple of Bentleys," Watson said. "My favorite was a convertible Rolls-Royce with Illinois plates. We had three students who came in Tesla cars."

Last year, Evelyn Lozada of "Basketball Wives" attended the prom. Her acceptance as a date was also set up through social media, Watson said.
