Pistons' Brandon Jennings to miss start of season

Pistons guard Brandon Jennings will miss the rest of the preseason and the beginning of the regular season with tooth and jaw issues.

Jennings had already missed preseason time with what the team was calling "wisdom-tooth discomfort," but a more detailed exam on Monday showed that he has both an impacted wisdom tooth and a hairline fracture of his jaw at the base of that tooth.

Jennings was reportedly punched in the mouth by rapper The Game at his birthday party in Los Angeles on Sept. 23.

A team statement said that Jennings will have his jaw immobilized for the next three weeks, and he will be re-evaluated at that time.

If he can return at the end of the three weeks, he would miss three regular-season games, but a more likely return date is the beginning of Detroit's West Coast trip on Nov. 11.

The Pistons will also be without Rodney Stuckey (broken thumb) at the start of the regular season, meaning that Chauncey Billups will have to start at point guard, while the shooting guard spot will come down to Kyle Singler or rookie Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.
