ORION TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- Authorities say they found what appeared to be a small pipe bomb near a service gate at Indianwood Golf & Country Club, which is hosting next week's U.S. Senior Open.
Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said in a statement that there was "no credible information of any specific threat" to Indianwood Golf & Country Club or the U.S. Senior Open following Thursday's discovery in Orion Township. Bouchard said it's believed it was left as a "random act."
A bomb squad responded Thursday and the sheriff's department is testing the homemade device. Investigators said Friday they were seeking tips from the public.
The U.S. Senior Open runs Monday through July 15 at the Lake Orion course.
