NEW YORK (AP) Every chance, they came, in the hopes of seeing history. And every time, they were disappointed.
Not this time.
The 90,000 spectators at Belmont Park Saturday got what they had been waiting for: the first Triple Crown in 37 years.
In the park, racing's elite and casual fans celebrated American Pharoah's achievement together. Penny Chenery, the owner of the 1973 Triple Crown champion horse Secretariat, was there. Billy Turner, Seattle Slew's trainer, signed autographs.

When the race was over, jockey Victor Espinoza threw up his hands in victory in front of a roaring crowd. It was done. History was made.
