Phoenix Mercury sign veteran guard Shameka Christon

PHOENIX -- The Phoenix Mercury have signed free agent guard Shameka Christon, an 11-year veteran of the WNBA. Christon has career averages of 9.9 points and 2.8 rebounds per game while shooting 34.3 percent from beyond the 3-point line. She spent the last three seasons with San Antonio following one year in Chicago and six in New York.
"Shameka is proven three-point shooter who gives us added versatility and depth on the wings," said Phoenix Mercury General Manager Jim Pitman. "Her veteran presence will be felt on our team this season."
Christon, 33, was the fifth overall selection in the 2004 WNBA Draft by New York after earning SEC Player of the Year honors at Arkansas. She was named to the 2009 WNBA All-Star team after averaging a career-high 16.1 points per game for the Liberty.
