EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. — Adrian Peterson is one of the league's most recognizable names and faces and has had his choice of endorsements in his career. As league MVP, his offseason has been filled with even more requests. The Minnesota Vikings' star running back is appreciative of the product in one of his newest endorsements.
"EpiPen," Peterson said Wednesday of his endorsement of the epinephrine auto injectors to treat allergic reactions. "Of course, I had that allergic reaction. Castrol Edge, signed back with Nike, so I've got some stuff going on right now. You will see me more. Stay tuned."
The good-natured Peterson went through the list after Minnesota's organized team activities. Peterson suffered an allergic reaction to shellfish in some jambalaya during training camp last year. Peterson, who loves seafood, was resting in the dorms when he had the allergic reaction. Vikings' head athletic trainer Eric Sugarman used an EpiPen on Peterson to help him breathe better after his throat had started to close, and Peterson was later taken to the hospital where he later checked out fine after what he called then a "scary" incident.
The endorsement fit for Peterson, but he hopes he doesn't have to use the EpiPen again.
"I do not want to use it, but I keep it around," Peterson said, smiling.
The offseason has been a bit busier for Peterson after he was named the league's MVP. At this time last year, Peterson was rehabbing from knee surgery en route to his big season in which he fell just eight yards shy of the NFL single-season rushing record.
"A little more spotlight," Peterson said. "Last year, I pretty much didn't have no endorsement deals come through. This year, it was a little different. Last year, some of those were my choice. … But this year the offseason has been a little busy."
He's very thankful for at least one of those new endorsements.
