Pepperdine eliminates ASU baseball with 3-run 8th

FULLERTON, Calif. -- Hutton Moyer's three-run double broke a tie with two outs in the eighth inning and propelled Pepperdine to a 7-4 victory over Arizona State in an NCAA regional elimination game Sunday.
The Waves (32-28) survived to play host Cal State Fullerton on Sunday night and needed a win to force another game between the teams for the regional championship Monday night.
Moyer had three hits and five RBIs. He connected off Sun Devils starter Jordan Aboites for his 14th homer of the season to give the Waves a 4-2 lead in the fifth.
Chandler Blanchard (4-3) was the winner, and Max Gamboa worked the ninth for his eighth save.
Darin Gillies (3-6) took the loss for the Sun Devils (35-23), who lost to Cal State Fullerton in 14 innings Saturday night in a game that took 5 hours, 12 minutes.
Jake Peevyhouse hit a solo homer for Arizona State that cut it to 4-3 in the sixth, and the Sun Devils tied it in the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Andrew Snow.
Peevyhouse's RBI single upped Arizona State's lead to 2-0 in the third. Pepperdine tied it in the fourth on Kolten Yamaguchi's run-scoring double.
