SYDNEY (AP) Penrith moved into the National Rugby League's top eight and a potential playoff spot with a 42-6 win over Newcastle, scoring six second-half tries to hand the last-place Knights their 15th consecutive loss.

In the only other match Sunday, the Sydney Roosters beat defending champion North Queensland 22-10, leaving the Cowboys in fifth place.

Former San Francisco 49ers running back Jarryd Hayne caused the biggest stir of the weekend, kicking a field goal with eight seconds remaining to give the Gold Coast Titans a 19-18 win Saturday over the Wests Tigers in Hayne's second match back in the NRL.

On Monday, first-place Melbourne can move three points ahead of Cronulla, which lost 32-18 to St. George Illawarra on Saturday, when the Storm play fourth-place Canberra.
