Pena, Maness to start injury rehab assignments in Double A


ST. LOUIS -- Two ailing St. Louis Cardinals, catcher Brayan Pena and pitcher Seth Maness, are taking another significant step in their road to recovery.

The team announced Tuesday that both players will begin injury rehabilitation assignments this week at Double-A Springfield.
Pena, 34, began the season on the disabled list after suffering a left knee injury in spring training. His assignment will start tonight when Springfield hosts Arkansas.
Maness, 27, was placed on the 15-day disabled list with right elbow inflammation on May 13. He will begin his assignment Wednesday night. Maness pitched 12 2/3 innings over 13 relief appearances with an 0-1 record and a 6.39 ERA before landing on the DL.
