The road has not been kind to the New Orleans Pelicans: they've lost he first 4 games of this West Coast swing and eight games total.

The young Pels may be down, but they certainly aren't giving up on the season. Just ask the normally quiet Brian Roberts, who is apparently becoming more comfortable in his role as the team's floor general in place of injured starter Jrue Holiday.

After New Orleans' loss to Sacramento, Roberts gathered his teammates together in the locker room and gave them an impassioned speech.

"I told them no one was going to get us out of this funk except ourselves," Roberts says. "I said we can't count on anyone except ourselves, so we better stick together and figure out a strategy."

Meanwhile, Coach Monty Williams also received some words of wisdom. They came from Clippers head coach Doc Rivers minutes after LA beat the Pelicans at the Staples Center Saturday night.

"He told me to stay the course, to continue to teach the same lessons and philosophies" Williams said. "If we were in this situation a year or two ago, I probably would have gone crazy trying top crack the code of what's going wrong, but now I know we just need to stay the course."
