Gasol is expected to make a full recovery and will return to basketball activities in approximately 12 weeks.
The procedure was performed by Dr. Steve Yoon of the Kerlan-Jobe Orthopaedic Group.
According to a release sent by the Lakers, a probe was inserted into Gasol’s knees, which directed ultrasound wavelengths to debride degenerated tissue of Gasol's patellar tendons non-surgically. Gasol will also receive autologous stem cell injections next week, which will stimulate regeneration of his tissue.
Gasol averaged 13.7 points and 8.6 rebounds per game during the 2012-13 season. The Lakers' season ended in the first round of the NBA playoffs after being bounced by the San Antonio Spurs.
