The decision on who will be the starting quarterback for TCU when it plays LSU Aug. 31 at Cowboys Stadium isn't coming anytime soon.
"It's going to be sometime in two-a-days," TCU head coach Gary Patterson said Tuesday.
Patterson will be choosing between senior Casey Pachall and sophomore Trevone Boykin. Pachall, the starter in 2011, missed most of last season after getting arrested and then entering a rehab facility. Boykin stepped in and started the final nine games for TCU, which went 7-6 in its first year of Big 12 play.
Pachall is back in school and both quarterbacks participated in spring practice.
"Casey had to knock some rust off but obviously has command of the offense," Patterson said. "He was a little rough around the edges. He always had a Josh Boyce as his go-to guy and he's not there. Establishing who he's throwing to, what he's doing, getting him more familiar with the young receivers on the team."
Patterson has been pleased with how far Boykin has come since taking over the job as a redshirt freshman.
"He's light years ahead," Patterson said. "When we left spring last year we felt like that we could only play with one quarterback (Pachall). Trevone grew up a lot during the season. That race, the quarterback, is very close. One beats you with his arm and one beats you with his legs."
