SUNRISE, Fla. -- The Florida Panthers have signed undrafted goaltender Colin Stevens to an entry-level deal, the team announced Friday.
"We are very pleased to have reached an agreement with Colin," Panthers general manager Dale Tallon said in a release. "He attended our development camp this summer and performed very well. Our scouts have followed Colin's development closely this season and look forward to his contributions to our organization."
Stevens, 21, posted a 16-15-0 mark with a 2.31 goals-against average and .920 save percentage in his senior season at Union College in Schenectady, New York. He won the NCAA hockey championship as Union's starting goaltender in 2014.
During the 2013-2014 season, he was tied for first among NCAA netminders in wins (28), second in shutouts (6), seventh in GAA (2.05) and ninth in save percentage (.929), earning an invitation to Florida's annual development camp in Coral Springs.
At last summer's camp, Stevens played 30 minutes of shutout hockey during the lone instrasquad scrimmage of the week, leaving a lasting impression on Panthers coaches and scouts.
"I think there's always room for improvement," Stevens told FOXSportsFlorida.com in July. "Obviously, there's always things you look back on and say 'I wish I did this better, I wish I did that a little better'. Overall, I felt like I did a pretty good job and it was a good experience."
Stevens joins Sam Brittain, a fourth-round pick in 2010, and Michael Houser, signed as an undrafted free agent in 2012, as Florida's goaltending prospects currently under contract.
