The owners of the Florida Panthers say the team isn't going anywhere.
In an open letter to fans Wednesday, co-owners Vinnie Viola and Doug Cifu refuted recent relocation talks while reaffirming their commitment to bring a Stanley Cup to South Florida.
"Despite media speculation to the contrary, we have no plans or intentions to move this franchise," Viola and Cifu stated.
Currently losing an estimated $30 million a year, ownership committed more than $80 million to new players during the offseason and believe that on-ice success is paramount in making hockey work in Sunrise.
"It is no secret that the Panthers and BB&T Center have lost tremendous amounts of money over the last dozen years," Viola and Cifu said. "We are working hard to address this situation, which we believe we can do with the support from our loyal fans, our business partners, the business community and our community-at-large."
