The Florida Panthers have agreed to terms with goaltender Jacob Markstrom on a two-year contract, the team announced Monday.
"Jacob is a young and talented goaltender who gained valuable experience playing in Florida last year," Panthers executive vice president and general manager Dale Tallon said. "We expect that he will continue to mature and develop and play an important role on our club next season."
Markstrom, 23, has a 10-19-2 overall record with a .906 save percentage in 31 games with Florida. In 23 games last season, he went 8-14-1, including a career-high 44-save effort in a 3-1 win over the New York Rangers on Mar. 2.
The 6-foot-6, 197-pound Markstrom played in 32 games last season with San Antonio of the American Hockey League, going 17-12-1 with a .927 save percentage and a 2.32 goals-against average. He was named AHL Player of the Week after making 68 saves in two wins against Abbotsford on Dec. 4-5.
The Gavle, Sweden native was drafted by Florida in the second round (31st overall) in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft.
