Pair of Indians win Silver Slugger awards

For the first time in 14 years, the Indians have a pair of Silver Slugger award winners in outfielder Michael Brantley and catcher Yan Gomes.
The last time it happened was in 2000 when Manny Ramirez and Roberto Alomar were honored. The Silver Sluggers, which are presented by Louisville Slugger, honors the top offensive player at each position in the American and National Leagues. Four members of each club's coaching staff vote on the awards but they cannot select players from their own team.
Brantley led American League outfielders in hits (200) and batting average (.327). He is the first Indians outfielder since Grady Sizemore in 2008 to get selected. Along with Brantley, the Angels' Mike Trout and Blue Jays' Jose Bautista were selected.
Gomes, who is the first Tribe catcher to win the award outright, led AL catchers in batting average (.278) and OPS (.785), was second in RBI (74) and third in home runs (21). Victor Martinez shared the award with Ivan Rodriguez in 2004.
Brantley and Gomes join Alomar, Ramirez, Sizemore, Cabrera, Martinez and Juan Gonzalez as Indians Silver Slugger winners since 2000.
The Reds were shut out of the awards for the first time since 2011.
