SAN DIEGO (AP) -- The Padres lost again to the Dodgers, and Los Angeles' Adrian Gonzalez again came through with big hits against his former team.
Gonzalez had a two-run single with two outs in the 12th inning Sunday, lifting the Dodgers past the Padres 4-2, for Los Angeles' eighth win against San Diego this season.
In 12 games against the Padres this season, the San Diego native is 18 for 46 (.391), with six home runs and 13 RBIs. He's a big reason the Padres have lost all four series to the Dodgers
In this one, San Diego squandered a late two-run advantage.
"We have to win," Padres starter James Shields said. "We have to win that game. The game was ours to lose and we have to do a better job of bearing down and getting that win right there."
The Dodgers' six relievers worked 7 1/3 shutout innings as the Padres have lost five of their past eight.
Alberto Callaspo opened the 12th with a double off Dale Thayer, then Kike Hernandez and Joc Pederson walked. Gonzalez followed with his 12th and 13th RBIs against the Padres this season.
"It was a fastball that was elevated a little," Gonzalez said. "I tried to stay on top of it because he is a fly ball pitcher. I didn't want to get under it and I tried to hit it on a line and it ended up in the right spot."
Gonzalez, who played five seasons with the Padres, had a two-out, RBI double off reliever Joaquin Benoit in the eighth to make it 2-all.
Josh Ravin (2-0) worked two innings for the win. Kenley Jansen pitched the 12th for his ninth save in 10 chances.
Thayer (2-2), the Padres' sixth pitcher, took the loss.
Pederson saved the game in the ninth with a running, over-the-shoulder catch while crashing into the wall on Justin Upton's two-out drive to center field with two on. He let out a loud "no" when Pederson caught it.
"We're trying to win a game and I thought I hit a ball that was going to win the game for us," Upton said.
James Shields, who came in 7-0, worked seven innings, allowing one run on five hits with three walks and six strikeouts and left with a 2-0 lead.
"His secondaries (pitches) were good but I felt he was losing a little bit of velocity off his fastball, so he and I worked through the decision," Black said.
Andre Either's homer in the seventh sliced the Dodgers' deficit to 2-1.
Upton's two-run, two-out single in the fifth gave the Padres a 2-0 lead.
Mike Bolsinger was charged with two runs, six hits and three walks in 4 2/3 innings. He struck out seven.
Bolsinger retired nine straight before Shields slapped a base hit past Gonzalez and took third on Will Venable's single. Venable stole second and Yangervis Solarte walked to load the bases. Upton followed with a solid hit to center field on an elevated off-speed pitch, scoring Shields and Venable and chasing Bolsinger.
In the third, Callaspo opened with a double but Bolsinger was unable to advance him, popping up to Shields on a bunt. Pederson followed with a single to right, but right fielder Matt Kemp threw out Callaspo at the plate with a nice sweep tag by Derek Norris.
"I think the better team won two of the three games," Gonzalez said. "We knew they would be close, they are always close."
MYERS A DECOY?
Padres manager Bud Black had Wil Myers on the on-deck circle to pinch hit in the 11th, then pulled him back. Was Myers, who has seen time on the DL with a wrist injury, a ruse to fool the Dodgers? "That's a fair question and I will explain that a little later," manager Bud Black said. "I don't want to say yet publicly."
THE SKINNY ON VINNY
Iconic Dodgers broadcaster Vin Scully has added San Diego to his no-travel list this season. Scully, in his 66th season with the Dodgers, calls games in Los Angeles but only works away contests in San Francisco. The smooth-talking Scully turns 88 later this year.

Dodgers: Manager Don Mattingly said RHP Joel Peralta (shoulder) will continue his rehabilitation assignments on Monday after throwing two-thirds of an inning on Saturday for Class-A Rancho Cucamonga. ...
