Packers officially release Saturday

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Jeff Saturday already made his intentions clear about retiring from the NFL. On Monday, the Green Bay Packers officially released the 14-year veteran center.
On Feb. 15, Saturday's agent, Ralph Cindrich, stated via Twitter that Saturday was waiting for the Packers to release him. Once that move was made, it would allow Saturday to sign a one-day contract with the Indianapolis Colts and retire with the team that he played 13 seasons for.
Green Bay signed Saturday to a two-year contract last offseason. After starting the first 14 games at center for the Packers in 2012, Saturday was benched in favor of young offensive lineman Evan Dietrich-Smith.
Saturday was elected to the Pro Bowl this year for the sixth time despite not having a very good season in Green Bay. Though he was suited up with the NFC, Saturday took one snap from former teammate and AFC quarterback Peyton Manning in the Pro Bowl before exiting the field for the final time in his career.
Releasing Saturday saves the Packers approximately $4 million in 2013 cap space.
