COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State has dropped the price of tickets for Saturday's spring football game to $5 in hopes of attracting a big crowd to Ohio Stadium Saturday afternoon.
The announcement was made Friday morning that the school had dropped its prior, head-scratching plan to charge $20 for walk-up ticket sales.
"I have a one-track mind and it's on recruiting," Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said. "I'd love to have 85,000 people there on a 72-degree day in Columbus, Ohio.
"My wife was the first one to say something (about the $20 tickets). I just think it's great (dropping the price). It will help us recruit a bunch of people and enjoy a day in the Horseshoe. I just want to try to make it a great day for the fans."
Meyer said those attending the game will see "skill players make plays. We're not going to pound the ball between the tackles and all that."
A lacrosse game starts at 11 a.m. and the spring game, which will feature four 10-minute quarters, starts at 1:30 p.m.
Ohio State had previously announced that around 30,000 presale tickets had been sold at the presale price of $12. Refunds will be available at point of purchase.
"I want the fan experience to be great," Meyer said. "We work real hard on that.
"I'd love to have 100,000 people in there. That might be asking a lot but it's been a cold winter. I hope people want to come out."
