Orlando Christian Prep three-sport star Mikey Walmer knows he is fortunate to be alive. And even more that he was able to walk away from a car accident with no broken bones after he was ejected through his driver's side window.
Walmer was not wearing his seat belt when his 2006 Ford Ranger slid off a wet road on his way to school Friday morning, according to the Orlando Sentinel. He flew 65 feet before landing in a grassy area, while his truck flipped five times.
The 19-year-old amazingly needed just six stitches on his head.
"While I was in midair, I asked God to please help me before I hit the ground," Walmer told the Sentinel. "I was bracing myself for the fall. And I felt like God just grabbed me and laid me down to the ground as soft as he could."
On Monday, Walmer was honored as Christian Prep's male athlete of the year. He was the team's football MVP, helped the basketball team reach the Final Four and also played volleyball.
"It's such a juxtaposition between now and Friday, when I thought my world was going to end," Mikey's mother, Rhonda, said.
