Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell earns third Big Ten Freshman of the Week honor


The Big Ten announced that Maryland forward Jake Layman has been named the Big Ten Men's Basketball Player of the Week, and Ohio State's D'Angelo Russell was named the Freshman of the Week.
Russell is a Lousiville, Kentucky native who averaged 24.0 points, 9.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.5 steals per game in Ohio State's split versus Michigan and at Iowa.
For the week, Russell shot 47.1 percent (16-of-34) from the field, 43.8 percent (7-of-16) from three-point range and 81.8 percent (9-of-11) from the free throw line.
He scored 21 points, handed out six assists, swiped four steals and corralled four rebounds in the 71-52 win over the Wolverines.
D'Angelo recorded his first double-double of the season with 27 points and 14 rebounds against Iowa.
He currently ranks second in the Big Ten in scoring at 20.5 points per game in conference play, having scored 20 or more points in five of the last seven games.
This is his third Freshman of the Week honor.
