Ohio native Hixon retiring after another ACL tear

It appears former University of Akron star Domenik Hixon will retire from football.
The veteran wide receiver and Columbus, Ohio native announced Tuesday on Facebook that he has torn the ACL in his right knee for the third time. Hixon, 29, had signed with the Chicago Bears in March.
"I'm disappointed that I won't be playing for a Bears team that has the players and coaches to win the Super Bowl," Hixon wrote. "I thank God for letting me live my dream of playing in the NFL for 8 years plus. It has truly been fun!"
Hixon won two Super Bowls with the New York Giants, though he tore his ACL during the Giants' 2012 championship run.
A graduate of Whitehall-Yearling High School, Hixon was drafted in the fourth round in 2006 by the Denver Broncos. He played only four games for the Broncos, all in 2007, before being released. He was returning a kickoff for the Broncos against the Buffalo Bills when Bills tight end Kevin Everett suffered a severe spinal cord injury attempting to tackle Hixon.
Hixon played in 76 NFL games with 13 starts, all 13 with the Giants. He finishes his career with 109 catches for 1,460 yards and 7 touchdowns.
He had 7 catches, 1 for a touchdown, for the Carolina Panthers last season in a comeback from his second ACL tear in three seasons.
Hixon played defense in his first two seasons at Akron, then switched to wide receiver in 2004 for Charlie Frye's senior season.
He caught the game-winning touchdown pass in Akron's only MAC Championship Game win in 2005.
