Now Florida State's all-time leading rusher, how high can Dalvin Cook climb on ACC list?
Dalvin Cook is now Florida State's all-time leading rusher, and in true Dalvin Cook fashion, it came on a breakaway run.
The Seminoles junior running back ripped off a 14-yarder along the left side in the first quarter Saturday against Syracuse, putting Cook past Warrick Dunn's career mark of 3,959 yards set in 1996.
Dunn, who entered the game with 3,941 yards -- 18 shy of Dunn -- rushed for 225 yards and four touchdowns in No. 17 Florida State's 45-14 victory. He's now the sixth player in ACC history to go over 4,000 yards in their career, joining NC State's Ted Amos (4,602), North Carolina's Amos Lawrence (4,391), Maryland's Lamont Jordan (4,417), the Tar Heels' Mike Voight (4,061) and Wake Forest's Chris Barclay (4,032).
Now fourth on that list, Cook has a regular-season finale against No. 23 Florida, which is 12th vs. the rush and just held LSU's Leonard Fournette -- who, to be fair, played on a gimpy ankle -- to 40 yards on 12 carries.
With the Gators and a bowl game still to play, Cook could finish as high as second behind Brown if he can get 225 yards in those outings, though getting the 432 to supplant Brown may be too much. Of course, he could surprise everyone and return to Tallahassee for his senior season, though that would seem unlikely.
Cook has averaged 112.6 yards per game throughout his career, putting him in line to break Giovani Bernard's conference record of 107.9 set in two seasons at North Carolina (2011-12).
