The talk of quarterback Matt Schaub re-uniting with his former offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan is over--at least for now.
Schaub was traded to the Oakland Raiders Friday for a sixth-round draft choice this May, ESPN's Chris Mortenson reported.
The Texans signed quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick Thursday and it was expected that Schaub would be released or traded. The Browns were rumored to be a landing place if Schaub would've been released because of his familiarity and the success that he had under Shanahan.
However, if a team were to trade for Schaub, they would've absorbed his nearly $14 million salary. It is believed the Browns were not interested in taking on Schaub's contract and would've been interested if he was released.
The Browns are still believed to be in the market for a veteran quarterback. Besides Schaub, the name most linked to the Browns is free agent Rex Grossman, who played under Shanahan with the Redskins.
Currently the only quarterbacks on the Browns roster are Brian Hoyer and Alex Tanney, who have a combined four career NFL starts between them.
