CAPE TOWN, South Africa (AP) There was no play on Day 3 of the first test between South Africa and India on Sunday because of rain.
South Africa leads the test by 142 runs and will continue its second innings on 65-2 if the weather clears on Monday. South Africa made 286 all out in its first innings and bowled out the tourists for 209.
Match officials waited until just after the scheduled tea break in the afternoon before deciding no play would be possible on the third day because of the persistent rain at Newlands in Cape Town.
The series between top-ranked test team India and No. 2 South Africa will be decided over three tests, with matches in Centurion and Johannesburg to come.
