At the age of 24, Adam Guerra was thrown into the fire.
He was named interim head coach at Loyola during the middle of the season, following the sudden resignation of Jeff Kearin in October of 2009. It was Guerra's first head-coaching job at the varsity level.
He guided the Cubs through the final six games of the season, going 2-4 during that time. Three of those losses came by a combined 11 points.
But it marked the end for Guerra.
There were many who thought he deserved to retain his position and continue as the head coach of Loyola going forward. The school had other ideas, which left Guerra out of football for a full season.
Now at the age of 28, Guerra once again is a head coach in the PAC-5 after taking over at St. Bonaventure this offseason, which is No. 9 on our list of "15 Reasons to Get Excited for the 2014 CIF-SS High School Football Season."
In doing so, Guerra inherited a program with one of the best quarterbacks in the country, USC commit Ricky Town, and a recent history of winning. The four losses the Seraphs had in 2013 were the most the program's had in a single season since losing four games in 1995. It also snapped a string of 14 consecutive double-digit win seasons.
