The No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers scored three early goals in the first period and never looked back, topping No. 20 Michigan 4-2 on Saturday night at the Kohl Center.

Sophomore Trent Frederic opened the night's scoring with his second goal in as many nights.

"Any time you get ahead in the game, I don’t know what our record is ahead, but I think we feel more confident playing ahead, Frederic said. "So it was good to get the first one."

Senior Ryan Wagner scored a fluky goal a few minutes later, sending the puck past Michigan's goaltender thanks to a deflection off a skate in front of the net.

Fifty-six seconds later, it was senior Cullen Hurley lighting the lamp for a 3-0 lead, and the Badgers opened up a 4-0 advantage in the second period on a goal by freshman Wyatt Kalynuk.

Michigan fired back with two goals, but Badgers goaltender Kyle Hayton's 32 saves prevented a comeback from the Wolverines.

Wisconsin killed off five of Michigan's six power plays.
