Well, the Giants won big Thursday and the Padres lost to the Dodgers.
So San Francisco jumped ahead of San Diego as the first place team in the National League West. That means the Padres are now a half game back of the Braves in the wildcard race.
This weekend the Braves have a series in Washington against the lowly Nationals (65-88). Tim Hudson (16-8, 2.61) goes for Atlanta against Jordan Zimmerman (0-2, 6.75) for the Nats.
The Giants will be in Colorado. The Rockies are 3.5 games back of the Giants for the NL West lead, so this series will determine whether they will be a factor in the last week of the season. Colorado is also 3.5 games back of the Braves in the wildcard standings.
Tim Lincecum (14-10, 3.60) will go for the Giants tonight against Jhoulys Chacin (9-9, 3.30) of the Rockies. Game time is 8:10 pm ET.
The Padres will host the Reds for a weekend series in San Diego. Tonight
