Newberry leads Oklahoma State past TCU

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) -- Jeff Newberry poured in a game-high 23 points, including 11 in a row during a three-minute span of the second half, to lead Oklahoma State to a 69-48 victory over TCU in the Big 12 Conference opener for both teams on Saturday.

Newberry, who also had a game-high eight rebounds, tallied 16 points in the second half to help Oklahoma State (9-4, 1-0) break open a two-point game at halftime. With the Cowboys leading 45-33, the senior guard scored his team's next 11 points to provide Oklahoma State with a 56-36 cushion with 5:18 to play.

Jawun Evans added 13 points and Leyton Hammonds added 11 points for the Cowboys, who totaled eight blocked shots.

Malique Trent and Chauncey Collins each topped TCU (8-5, 0-1) with 11 points. The Horned Frogs shot 30 percent from the field (15 of 50), including just 1 of 17 from 3-point range.
