Wright-Phillips matched the MLS' single-season scoring record of Roy Lassiter and Chris Wondolowski with 27 goals. The Englishman had 31 goals in all competitions and was chosen for the league's Best XI team.

The 2014 MLS Golden Boot winner broke the club record of 19 previously set by Juan Pablo Angel. His four goals in the playoffs helped New York reach the Eastern Conference title game for the first time since 2008.
