WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) The bonus point system has been revised for the Super Rugby competition, though some coaches are complaining about a lack of consultation.
The old system under which teams received a bonus point for scoring four or more tries has been abolished and teams will now only receive an attacking bonus point if they score three tries more than their opponents. The system is borrowed from France's Top 14, where it is said to reward defense as well as attack.
Crusaders coach Todd Blackadder said he wasn't aware of the change until he received an email from Super Rugby's governing body Sanzar. He said there had been no consultation with coaches.
Blackadder said the lack of consultation was disappointing but ''We'll ask our players to adapt and get on with it.''
