NBA Summer League recap: Jazz 91, Wolves 82


The Timberwolves endured a rough shooting night late Monday in Las Vegas, leading to a 91-82 summer-league loss to the Utah Jazz at the Thomas and Mack Center.
Minnesota shot just 27.8 percent (5 for 18) from 3-point range, and just 63.3 percent (19 for 30) from the free-throw line, hindering its chances at victory. Minnesota also labored through a key second quarter in which it was outscored, 32-20.
The Wolves' front line had its encouraging moments, however, as big men Adreian Payne (18 points, six rebounds) and Karl-Anthony Towns (10 points, 10 rebounds) filled the stat sheet. Towns, the No. 1 overall pick in last month's NBA Draft, shot just 4 for 15 from the field, though.
The victorious Jazz were led by guard Jared Cunningham's 17 points.
Starting five: The Wolves' starting lineup consisted of Towns, Payne and C.J. Williams in the frontcourt, with Tyus Jones and Othyus Jeffers in the backcourt.
The Tyus report: Jones, another first-round pick from last month, was limited to six points on 2-for-6 shooting from the field. The Apple Valley, Minn., native also had four rebounds, one assist and four turnovers in a total of 24 minutes, 15 seconds of playing time.
Stat corner: Minnesota saw five players score in double figures. Joining Payne and Towns in that group were Lorenzo Brown (15 points), Jeffers (13) and Nick Wiggins (11). Nick Wiggins is the 24-year-old older brother of Wolves star Andrew Wiggins. Nick Wiggins is a 6-6 guard who played collegiately at Wichita State. . . . Utah won despite shooting just 34.8 percent from 3-point territory and 61.9 percent from the charity stripe. . . . Minnesota won the rebounding battle, 40-37. . . . The Timberwolves had 19 total turnovers.
