NAU's Jordyn Martin named Big Sky's top defensive player


OGDEN, Utah -- Northern Arizona junior forward Jordyn Martin was named the 2015 Big Sky Defensive Player of the Year, and sophomore guard Kris Yanku was named first-team All Big Sky Conference.
Senior guard Quinton Upshur was voted second-team All Big Sky, and senior guard Aaseem Dixon received honorable mention.
Martin averages 7.1 rebounds a game and spearheads an NAU defense that held opponents to 67.4 points per game. Yanku averaged 15.8 points and 6.6 assists per game against Big Sky opposition.
Upshur is averaging 14.4 points per game, and Dixon leads the Lumberjacks with 72 3-point baskets and had a pair of games with 30-plus points.
The Lumberjacks (18-13, 13-5 Big Sky) are seeded fourth in the Big Sky Conference tournament and will play Northern Colorado (15-14, 10-8) in Thursday's quarterfinals in Missoula, Mont.
