October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (http://www.nbcam.org/) and many in the NASCAR community have been touched by breast cancer and other forms of the disease.

Marcy Scott, the Director of Marketing & Promotion for Atlanta Motor Speedway, was diagnosed with breast cancer in the spring of 2009 and fought the disease valiantly, with courage, energy and strength --€” some of the very same qualities that have made her so popular with all of us who work in the sport.

Marcy is one of the those people who always has a kind word and a big smile and radiates energy and joy. Her attitude and enthusiasm are among her myriad strengths.

In July, Marcy was diagnosed with brain cancer, which her mother detailed on Marcy's blog, http://marcyscott.blogspot.com/

Since then, as she continues her brave fight, the NASCAR community has shown their support for Marcy. Last month, Atlanta Motor Speedway passed out pink wristbands with the inscription "€œ500 Miles For Marcy" and last week Charlotte Motor Speedway painted a pit wall pink and put Marcy's name on it.

And so we send out our thoughts and prayers to Marcy and her family, who have battled so long and so courageously against this awful disease.
