Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Chris Narveson underwent successful surgery on Tuesday to repair his labrum and torn rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder, according to a tweet from Brewers media relations director Mike Vassallo.
The surgery was performed by Dr. William Raasch, the team's physician. Narveson's recovery time is expected to be around nine months, which may put his status in question heading into spring training before the 2013 season.
Previous details from the Brewers or Narveson himself didn't mention any damage with his labrum, although Vassallo said in an email that there was no indication Narveson's prognosis was any worse than initially expected. Narveson had a previous issue with his labrum that resulted in surgery during the 2005 season while Narveson was with the St. Louis Cardinals organization.
In two games this season, Narveson, 30, was 1-1 with a 7.00 ERA. His No. 5 spot in the rotation has since been filled by Brewers long reliever Marco Estrada. Last season, Narveson was 11-8 with a 4.45 ERA.
