Michigan State's 2011 basketball recruiting class is currently ranked No. 19 nationally, third in the Big Ten, by Scout.com.

Coach Tom Izzo announced the Spartans signed four players Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

The class is led by five-star recruit Branden Dawson, a 6-foot-6 swingman from Gary, Ind. Dawson is one of the nation's top rebounders.

Dawson is joined by 6-6 guard Brandan Kearney (Detroit Southeastern), 6-4 guard Dwaun Anderson (Suttons Bay, Mich.) and 6-foot point guard Travis Trice (Dayton, Ohio).

Michigan has two oral commitments from 6-1 guard Carlton Brundidge (Southfield) and 6-1 point guard Trey Burke (Columbus, Ohio), but neither was expected to sign Wednesday.

Scout.com currently ranks Illinois' class as the best in the Big Ten, No. 11 in the nation. Ohio State is No. 13.

The early signing period runs through next Wednesday. The "regular" signing period is April 13-May 18.
