Monday's five plus one

A few essential links whilst you while away your time waiting for the super-interesting pitching match-up in tonight's Mariners-Yankees game...
- Remember 2013 All-Star Jason Kipnis? That guy was back last month, which is just another reason not to give up on the Indians quite yet.
- Good stuff, most of it perfectly reasonable, from Bob Klapisch about CC Sabathia's relative ineffectiveness. I will say that he's better than his 5.67 ERA, with with both a high BABiP allowed (.344) and high HR/FB. Oddly, that happened last season, too. Which makes it easy to think this is just who he is. I don't believe that yet, though. I believe he can still pitch decently for five or six innings, even with his diminished stuff.
- Is there anything better than waking up in the morning and hearing Ben Lindbergh and Sam Miller on your radio? Well, maybe a few things. But not many! If you weren't listening to the same radio I was, here's Sam & Ben talking about running a baseball team this summer. An ACTUAL baseball team.
- When we think "mascots" we think about the San Diego Chicken, and the Phillie Phanatic, and (shudder) Dinger. But a century ago, while practically every major-league club had a mascot, all of them were ... human. About which Paul Dickson's written a nifty little piece.
- Some poor kid pulled a Merkle's Boner in a Washington State high-school championship game. Fortunately, his team wound up winning anyway. (h/t Mike Curto)
Finally, I promised a "plus one" and here it is: That medical study showing that eating chocolate is good for you? It was fake, and it was glorious.
