Molina, Cardinals put contract talk on hold

The Cardinals and four-time Gold Glove winning catcher Yadier Molina have stopped talking about a new contract, for now.
Molina said his agent Melvin Roman and the Cardinals spoke recently. Molina is in the final year of an extension that paid him $21.5 million over five years. He will make $7 million on the option portion of that deal this season.
Molina said he would be open to contract negotiations during spring training and the season, according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch.
"For now, I don't want to talk about it. Hopefully, when the season starts (something could be done)," Molina said.
Molina was asked if he would provide a hometown discount to the Cardinals. He was drafted by the Cardinals, and has played eight seasons for them.
"I don't know about that. Like I say — I always say this — I like the town. I like the city," Molina said. "At the same time, I have to think about my family ... like they worry about their team. This is business. If I get good money, I'll take it. If not, I go away."
