After last season, you would think the hockey gods would give the Red Wings a break from injuries this year.
But, no, the Wings' depth is going to be tested again.
Center Mike Modano, in his first season with the Wings, is out indefinitely after undergoing surgery Saturday morning.
Modano's right wrist was cut by one of the Blue Jackets' skates Friday night in the second period of Detroit's 2-1 victory at Columbus. He left the game and did not return.
Modano suffered a severed tendon and slight nerve damage. After the game, Modano returned to Detroit with the team. He had surgery on the wrist Saturday morning at the Detroit Medical Center.
