MLS Roundup: Portland stages late show again, Silva sparks D.C. United

Pa Modou Kah scored his first MLS goal in second-half stoppage time to complete the Timbers’ recovery against nine-man FCD at Providence Park. FCD raced to a two-goal lead before the interval as its pace tore apart the home side. Fabián Castillo opened the scoring just before the half-hour with a clever touch and a fine finish. Blas Pérez doubled the advantage six minutes before halftime after a threatening, vertical run from Tesho Akindele. Portland responded after the interval and sliced the deficit in half from the spot after Will Johnson held off Gaston Fernández to take and dispatch a penalty. Moises Hernández received a straight red card three minutes from time for a challenge on Danny O’Rourke to reduce FCD to 10 men. Pérez then procured a red card for stomping on Kahbefore the Timbers center back delivered a point at the death with his cool finish.
Montréal 2 – D.C. United 4
United leaned on a first-half hat trick from Luis Silva to claim all three points at Stade Saputo and enter the World Cup break atop the Eastern Conference. Silva exposed the static defense with a diagonal run for the opener after just six minutes. Jack McInerney drew the home side level five minutes later after latching onto a vertical ball and slotting it inside the far post. Andrés Romero added a fine solo goal to give Montreal the lead, but Nick DeLeon equalized moments later. Silva scored twice more before halftime – once from distance, once from the spot – to guarantee the points.
