Marlins ace Jose Fernandez, who had Tommy John surgery last May, appeared in his first game action since the procedure on Monday. Fernandez struck out seven batters over three innings in an extended spring training game on Monday, hitting 97 mph on the radar gun. The 22-year-old is scheduled to make a Class A rehab start on Saturday, and then another on June 12. If all goes well, we could see him back in the big-league rotation during the week of June 22.
Fernandez is owned in 80.5 percent of FOXSports.com leagues, so it's not like most of you are able to grab him. If you do own him, your wait is almost over.
In other news ...
The Rangers have decided to call up slugging prospect Joey Gallo to replace the injured Adrian Beltre (thumb). Gallo will play, hit some home runs and strike out A LOT. It's likely that Gallo will return to the minors when Beltre is ready to play - probably in a few weeks - so don't get too excited in the short term.
There are two doubleheaders on today's schedule: Blue Jays-Nationals (1:05 p.m. ET) and Dodgers-Rockies (3:10). Set your lineups accordingly.
Mets 1B Lucas Duda missed Monday's game with a bruised knee. Duda says he'll play tonight, but manager Terry Collins isn't so sure.
In other Mets' news, C Travis d'Arnaud (wrist) is expected to resume his rehab later this week, and could be a week away from activation after that.
Braves OF Cameron Maybin was scratched Monday due to a mild groin strain; it sounds like he'll play tonight.
Rays SP Matt Moore (Tommy John surgery) is scheduled for a Wednesday rehab start, and is probably a month or so away from activation.
The Marlins have sent former closer Steve Cishek to the minors to work on his mechanics. He's still the best bet in the Miami bullpen to get saves later this season.
Cardinals' lefty Jaime Garcia was very good as our Monday streaming starter selection. Today's pick is Cub starter Kyle Hendricks (13.1 percent owned) at Miami.
DFS advice (based on 50/50 games, salaries from DraftKings): Monday's recommendations didn't pan out thanks to that stiff Felix Hernandez. At least Freddie Freeman and Luis Valbuena were helpful... Max Scherzer has averaged 29.2 points per start, has posted one start of fewer than 20 points, and is a -220 favorite. Is he a must-play against the Jays? I'll probably pair him with the mid-priced Clay Buchholz ($7,200) ... I'm also fine with Cueto ($10,400), Lynn ($8,500) and Syndergaard ($8,100), all of whom have good matchups ... Doesn't your lineup have to start with Nelson Cruz ($4,800) vs. CC Sabathia? Cruz's teammate, Rickie Weeks ($3,100), can save some money at 2B ... You'll certainly want to stack Dodger lefthanded hitters if possible against Colorado rookie David Hale, but it'll cost you ... A budget OF consideration is Milwaukee's Gerardo Parra ($3,000), who is 11-for-22 with two homers against Lance Lynn ... Rays OF Steven Souza ($4,200) has been killing LHP, and gets C.J. Wilson tonight ... Cubs C Welington Castillo ($2,900) is another lefty masher, and would be in a nice spot against Marlins rookie Brad Hand. SS Starlin Castro ($4,000) looks like a solid choice as well.
