The association of Major League Baseball groundskeepers announced Thursday that its hall of fame trophy will be named in honor of longtime Milwaukee Brewers groundskeeper Gary Vanden Berg, who passed away last fall after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Vanden Berg was with the Brewers for more than 30 years, joining the team in 1981 as assistant superintendent of grounds, and served more than 20 years as the club's head groundskeeper.

Vanden Berg died on October 10, 2011. The team honored him with a jersey patch during its playoff run.
