ST. LOUIS — The St. Louis Cardinals poached a potential Missouri Tiger on Thursday, when the signing of infielder Malik Collymore, the team's 10th-round pick in the 2013 MLB Draft, became official.

Collymore, a resident of Mississauga, Ontario, played at Port Credit Secondary School in Canada. He had previously committed to Mizzou, but that commitment became null and void as soon as his professional contract with the Cardinals was signed. He became the 34th player the Cardinals have signed from their 2013 draft class.

"Malik is a high ceiling premium athlete," said Cardinals Scouting Director Dan Kantrovitz.  "He played shortstop for the Canadian National team this spring and flashes major league tools across the board.  On the bases, he can fly.  He's got a good arm and will hit for power. Malik will need some time to grow both offensively and defensively, but with an outstanding work-ethic, we think he will thrive in our system."

Collymore was at Busch Stadium on Thursday, and took batting practice with the Cardinals. He hit three home runs during that session.
