Ohio State fans no longer have to worry about who will be the Buckeyes' quarterback in 2014 after the school confirmed Braxton Miller will return for his senior season.
Although multiple reports emerged over the weekend that Miller had decided against entering this spring's NFL draft, he said following the Buckeyes' 40-35 loss in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3 that he would take about a week to make his final decision.
A school spokesman confirmed to Fox Sports Ohio on Thursday night Miller had decided to stay in school for a fourth season as the Buckeyes' starter.
Miller led the Buckeyes to a 12-2 record as a junior and won the Chicago Tribune's Silver Football as the Big Ten's Most Valuable Player for a second consecutive. He was also named the conference's best quarterback and top offensive player for the second year in a row.
In a release from the OSU athletics department, Miller said he wants to help the Buckeyes win a Big Ten championship in 2014 while continuing to learn his craft from head coach Urban Meyer and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Tom Herman.
"Plus, I want to improve as a quarterback in all aspects of my game," Miller said in the release. "I'm looking forward to working for another year with coach Meyer and coach Herman.
"And I want to graduate, so this will help get me closer to my academic goal."
Not surprisingly, Meyer is quoted as looking forward to Miller's return.
"He has been an extremely valuable member of our team and he is also a fine student," Meyer said. "His desire to lead our team to a championship, to earn his degree from The Ohio State University next spring and to continue to improve as a quarterback are his motivation."
For his career, Miller has completed 395 of 666 passes for 5,292 yards and 52 touchdowns with 17 interceptions in 36 games. He has rushed for 3,054 yards and another 32 scores.
He is eighth in Ohio State annals in passing yards, fourth in passing touchdowns and eighth in rushing yards.
With six touchdown passes, Miller will pass Troy Smith, Joe Germaine and Bobby Hoying as the school's all-time leader.
Confirmation of Miller's final decision came on the heels of the news defensive line coach Mike Vrabel accepted the job of linebackers coach with the Houston Texans.
