Mike Leach's summer: Geronimo book tour, catching 350-pound sturgeon
HOLLYWOOD -- Mike Leach's key to a successful season?
"Win one game a week."
The never-boring Washington State coach spoke at Pac-12 Media Days at Paramount Studios on Wednesday and gave an update on his busy summer schedule, which included a book tour of his work 'Geronimo: Leadership Strategies of an American Warrior' and the birth of a granddaughter.
"(The book) It's been beneficial with football .. constantly thinking about what's greatness, how to create, how to prepare for it," Leach said.
Leach's written work isn't required reading for his team -- yet.
His Washington State coaching staff also joined him on a fishing trip on the Snake River in Idaho where they caught what Leach estimated to be a 9 1/2 âfoot, 350-pound, 95-year-old Sturgeon.
"We turned him loose so he can pull someone else's boat around next time," Leach said.
Turning attention the 2014 season, the Cougars return 6-foot-4 redshirt sernior quarterback Connor Halliday, who set the WSU single-season passing record with 4,597 yards last season. It was the second highest total in Pac-12 history, behind 4,662 by Oregon State QB Sean Mannion -- also set in 2013.
"He's done a great job leading our offense, and continues to improve and develop," said Leach.
Washington State nearly beat Auburn and took down USC in 2013, which ended at 6-7 and a loss in the New Mexico Bowl.
