Miami's Clive Walford one of three finalists for top tight end award

University of Miami senior Clive Walford is one of three finalists for the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's most outstanding tight end.
Joining Walford are Florida State senior Nick O'Leary, who was a finalist last season, and Minnesota sophomore Maxx Williams.
Walford leads the Hurricanes with 40 catches. His 627 yards and seven touchdowns rank second behind senior wideout Phillip Dorsett.
Compared to O'Leary, Walford has as many catches, 162 more yards and four more scores. Williams has 12 fewer receptions and 209 fewer yards but as many touchdowns.
A Miami player has won the honor once before: Kellen Winslow II in 2003.
The recipient will be announced Dec. 10 and the award will be presented the following day live at The Home Depot College Football Awards Red Carpet Show.
