Miami athletics receives $1 million donation

For the third time in recent weeks, the University of Miami athletic department received substantial financial help.
UM Trustee and alumnus Robert Mann donated $1 million to create an endowed fund to support Hurricanes football, basketball, baseball and emergency funds for all student-athletes.
Mann, a 1970 graduate, serves on the university's Board of Trustees Athletics Advisory Committee. He is also the chair of the Visiting Committee of the School of Communication. He previously contributed to the construction of Alex Rodriguez Park at Mark Light Field and the Robert A. Mann Auditorium in the Schwartz Center for Athletics Excellence.
A Cleveland native and longtime Golden Cane, Mann was named the Henry King Stanford Alumnus of the Year in 2008.
In conjunction with the university-wide Momentum2 fundraising campaign, UM has raised $1.6 billion total, $104 million for the athletic department.
Former running back Ken Hunt donated $1.5 million last month, while the school will enter a 12-year partnership with Adidas come September.
"Thank you to Bob Mann for his longstanding generosity, commitment and leadership to University of Miami Athletics," UM Director of Athletics Blake James said in a statement. "Bob is a trusted friend to our program and we are grateful that our dedicated student athletes will forever benefit from Bob's generosity and leadership."
