Bartolo Colon has never had the "typical" baseball player body. He knows it, fans know, we all know it, but apparently Colon's teammates are tired of seeing their 40-year old teammate being picked on due to his weight.
According to the New York Daily News, the Mets would not speak to the media until Post writer Mike Puma left the clubhouse.
"Apparently angry about an article in the New York Post on Friday about Bartolo Colon under the headline "LARDBALL," the players would not talk to the media until Post writer Mike Puma left the clubhouse. Puma was asked to leave and did so without incident. Within a minute, several Mets appeared in the clubhouse. The team would not comment on the incident."
In Puma's article, he referenced the Michael Pineda pine tar incident and turned it into a joke about Colon.
The opening line of Puma's article was the following:
"If the umpires searched Bartolo Colon's neck for a foreign substance on Thursday, chances are they only would have found peanut butter."
Although Puma was joking, the Mets have had enough.
How could they expect writers to lay off Colon's size when he does things like this in the dugout?
These types of things are going to happen when you list a guy at 285 pounds on your team website.
Then again, who cares how much you weigh when you're making $10 million a year?
