Mets closer Francisco to have MRI on left knee

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla. (AP) -- Mets closer Frank Francisco was to have an MRI on his left knee Monday, a day after fluid was drained.

Francisco said the knee felt sore earlier in camp but it went away until Saturday, when he pitched two innings against the Miami Marlins.

"The last game I pitched, the first inning was fine, but then when I sat on the bench, resting for the next inning, I felt like my knee got cold a little bit," Francisco said. "I didn't feel like it was right."

Francisco left Toronto for a $12 million, two-year contract with the Mets. He was able to throw Monday.

"I did my workout and everything, and it felt fine, but they're going to take a look at it," Francisco said.

Center fielder Andres Torres, sidelined since March 20 because of a strained left calf, played nine innings in a minor league intrasquad game Monday and said he hopes to return to the lineup Tuesday. He was 0 for 7 with two walks and scored from first on a double.

"My legs feel good," Torres said. "I just need more at-bats. I'm kind of cold and everything, but at least my leg is good. That's the main thing that I feel good."
