FOXSportsSouth.com invites you to meet the Braves as we begin a month-long look at our team, player-by-player. We'll revisit 2011 and project what 2012 might look like.

Jason Heyward

Position: Right field
Height: 6-5. Weight: 235
Bat/Throw: L/L
Hometown: Atlanta
Experience: Third season

2011 in review: A shoulder injury set back Heyward’s career in his second season. After hitting .277 with 18 homers and 72 RBIs as a rookie, he spent time on the DL and struggled with his swing afterward. He hit .227 with 14 homers and 42 RBIs in just 128 games.

Career highlight: Was selected to the NL All-Star team as a rookie, but missed the game with a thumb injury.

Outlook: Heyward worked in the offseason to prove his rookie season wasn’t a fluke. He dropped 20 pounds and retooled his swing with new hitting coaches Greg Walker and Scott Fletcher. Look for him to improve upon his rookie numbers if he can avoid injuries.

You should know: Heyward was 20 years old when he became the youngest player to hit a home run in his first MLB at-bat since 1950. He homered against Chicago on April 5, 2010.

Friday: Arodys Vizcaino
